Information

Oskar Kardemark (b.1985) is an artist and writer based in Gothenburg. He revived his BFA in photography from Valand Academy in 2018, and his MFA in photography from HDK-Valand in 2020.

An interest in the staged and performed run through most of what he does, stretching from the everyday to the fantastical, together with an interest in interpersonal relationships, architecture and films.

For Kardemark, writing and image making are intertwined as forms of expression, each informing the other, as well as also functioning as two separate practises. Kardemark has published interviews and essays on photography, but also use writing as part of his photographic process, as a way of thinking.

Interdisciplinary collaborations have been at the core of his practice in recent years. Most notably his collaborations with choreographers, like his work “Stages” with noted choreographer Efva Lilja.

He works with both analogue and digital processes when making images and prints. Presenting his photographic work in handmade frames has become an important part of his work and process.

As a writer, he regularly publishes with Swedish Radio and a variety of papers and magazines.
